Engine Building
Cylinder head development
and measurement
The tasks of a cylinder head port are manifold: exchange of gas to support the intake and exhaust stroke, support the fuel-air-homogeneity (Port Fuel Injection systems or short PFI), separate gas and coolant circuit durable, integrate valve train components, support the right formation of flow regime for the combustion process and so on.
Cylinder head port development need a good knowledge about the actual situation and the demands of the new engine setup modifications. The 1D simulation and an analysis of an engine dyno result can give hints about the actual optimal flow characteristic and with the comparison of the flow bench result the demand for the actual and modified engine setup can be determined.
Flow characteristics of the port has to support, beside the above, the 4 phases of intake stroke: scavenging, down stroke, up stroke and ramming. For that it is important to know the application, where the engine has to show it's best performance, and how the piston dynamic is characterized - fitting the same head ports on a short stroke or a big stroke engine with same cylinder displacement makes a significant difference in performance.
Our haulistic approach include following steps:
- hot suspension and manual cleaning
- analyzing of the status mechanically and at the flow bench
- 1D-calculation and dyno result analyzing to determine the demand for your engine setup and application
- right sizing of squish height
- right sizing of the port and flow geometry
- measurement of the flow properties on the flow bench
No matter if highest fuel efficiency or power and torque are your goal. We develop the right solution for you.
The K20-EVO 1
The K20-EVO 1 is an head for a 500 ccm/cylinder application with a wide spread of combustion and VE support. With the DAMPFHAMMER technology it be expected to support a 4000 rpm wide operational engine speed bandwidth of 125-135 Nm/Liter. The applications for these head are e.g. hill climb, circuit racing, time attack and rallye.
Below a Superflow SF-750 flow bench measurement which shows a comparison of the best intake ports of the K-series (RSP casting) and a competitor (4Piston ProTSX). The flow bench may have a low reading, but here the comparison between these is of importance.
